2008 Bowhunter Ed Classes

Bowhunting Course Being Offered!

The Hickory Ridge Bowhunters and the Marion County Sportsman Club will co sponsor an International Bowhunter Education course on July 29, 31 & August 2, 2008. All sessions will be held at the Marion County Sportsman’s Club. The sessions on July 29 and 31 will run from 6:30 to 9:30 P.M. The class on the 2nd will include outdoor sessions at the Club grounds and will be held from 8 A.M. until 2 P.M.

Completion of the course is a requirement in several states and provinces before you can purchase a bowhunting license. Starting this year the City of Pella will offer a special bowhunt in the city with bonus tags for those who participate. Hunters will be required to successfully pass the Bowhunter Education Course and pass a proficiency test. However the biggest benefit of the course is the skills and knowledge gained to make the students better bowhunters. Bowhunting skills along with ethical behavior, respect for landowners rights, safety, shot placement and survival skills are all included in the wide ranging class curriculum.

The course is free, however individuals are asked to call and make reservations and make a $ 10.00 deposit which will be returned upon attendance of the class. The class will be limited to the first 40 individuals that sign up. Reservations can be made by calling Ryan Schumacher at 641-891- or Larry Scott at 842-6701 or Jerry Dowell at 628-9284. All sessions must be attended in order to receive the course certification. The Saturday field session will include 3-D target shooting, however everyone interested in the course are encouraged to attend since archery experience or equipment are not required.

The Marion County Sportsman Club is a non-profit club dedicated to outdoors pursuits that can be enjoyed by the entire family. The club is particularly involved in the endeavors that are provided by shooting, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors in a safe, ethical fashion.

The Hickory Ridge Bowhunters organization is a non-profit club dedicated to the sport of bowhunting and the education of bowhunters in the ethical pursuit of the sport under the rules of fair chase. The club built and maintains the Robert’s Creek Archery range which is open to the public. Three tournaments are held at the range each year using three dimensional foam animal targets.
